The replica-plating tool utilizes a locking ring that secures sterile velveteen squares onto a PVC cylinder for easy control of the plating device. To produce replicas, the Petri dish carrying microbial colonies is inverted and lowered onto the cloth surface, then lifted. A fresh sterile nutrient plate is then lowered onto the velveteen surface and lifted, leaving a replica of the original colonies in the new dish. • For use with 90 to 100 mm Petri dishes • May be disinfected between uses with a brief rinse in 70% ethanol or chlorine bleach • Aluminum ring is 10.2 cm (4") in diameter; PVC cylinder is 6.9 cm (2 3/4") high • Not autoclavable The tool comes with 12 sterile, white, 100% cotton, absorbent twill-backed velveteen squares; 15.2×15.2 cm (6×6"). Replacement velveteen squares are available, packed in a sealed bag with three inner locking bags each containing 12 squares, for a total of 36 pieces.
