Details
Travertine is a carbonate rock formed from gushing hot springs. The airy, porous material indicates an abundance of air bubbles that moved through the rock as it solidified. While this characteristic is normally reserved for igneous rocks, travertine is unique in that it forms as a result of rapidly dropping pH levels. Great for geology classrooms, ideal for identification and classification exercises. Useful in lessons on sedimentary petrology and geothermal systems. Geologist selected: each specimen is hand-selected and processed by an actual geologist, ensuring each sample exhibits its defining features. Locally processed: our rock and mineral samples are sourced from a variety of locations around the world and are processed in Victor, NY. Individually packaged and labeled: each specimen sample is packaged in a transparent bag and is labeled and barcoded for easy identification.
