Details
Pumice is formed from frothy lava created during a volcanic explosion. As the lava cools, it hardens into a lightweight rock filled with small gas bubbles. Because this rock is so porous and light, it can actually float on water. This set of twelve raw pumice specimens is great for geology classrooms, perfect for demonstrating the effect of vesicles on rock density, as well as lessons in identifying and classifying igneous rocks. Each specimen is ideal for group study and examination. Each sample is selected and hand-processed by an actual geologist, ensuring that each exhibits defining features. Our rock and mineral samples are sourced from a variety of locations around the world and are processed in Victor, NY. Each specimen is packaged in a transparent bag and labeled with a barcode for easy identification. While each will vary slightly in shape, size, and color, it measures approximately 1" in length. Technical support is always available; feel free to reach out to our team of scientists and geologists for additional information or assistance with any questions regarding our rock and mineral samples.
