Details
This apparatus is designed to determine the approximate value of Planck's constant using the elbow voltage in the characteristic curves of a number of LEDs. The device features seven LEDs, covering wavelengths from deep blue at 470 nm to near IR at 940 nm, mounted on a box with sockets for voltage and current measurements. By monitoring the voltage at which each LED just begins to emit light, a graph of energy input as a function of light-emitted frequency can be plotted, and an approximate value of Planck's constant can be deduced. The apparatus includes a plastic viewing tube and comes with an instructional guide and experiment examples. The box measures 8 inches wide, 4.75 inches long, and 1 inch tall. Perfect for any classroom, this device is useful for a variety of physics experiments. Note: Required but not included are a power supply (9V DC), voltmeter (0-9 volts), ammeter (20mA), and six banana plug connecting leads.
